“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” We probably all know the proverb – but is it true? Actually, there appears to be a lot of wisdom in those words.
A little research reveals that the average low-fat water-based 80-calorie apple is a cheap superfood, good at shifting toxins and packed with nutrients such as vitamins A, B1, C and K; potassium, calcium, phosphorus and sodium; plus quercetin, pectin and dietary fibre.
So what do these do? Plenty: improve digestive and immune systems, boosting energy, with better vision, fewer colds, and healthier skin and bones. They also reportedly help lower blood pressure, ward off cancer, heart disease, arthritis and depression, protect against the effects of smoking, and remove toxic metals.
What if apples give you indigestion? I find the traditional lunchbox of a sandwich plus snacks and an apple turns my stomach into an acid bath. To combat this, I food combine, eating fruit separately and usually as a spot of supper. That way, I find an apple or two a day are a tasty benefit not a digestive hand grenade.
Apples: cheap, nutritious and anti-ageing. Enjoy!
